Siete Rayos is a new, UK based, six-piece Salsa/Timba band that has grown from the popular Cuban music quartet, Mojito Salsa. Our inspiration for this project is simply our favourite dance music from Cuba (of course), son montuno, salsa, and timba. The band has a strong focus on modern Cuban dance music, and with a few traditional gems nestled in the mix.

 

Siete Rayos is fronted by multi-instrumentalist, Juan Sanchez, on trombone, trumpet and lead vocals. Juan is from Holguin, in eastern Cuba, the home of Cuban Son, he is joined by piano supremo, Andrzej Baranek, bass master, David Tompkins, and percussionist, Christian Weaver, who have been playing together for many years (in groups such as Orquesta Timbala and Mojito Salsa). Drummer, Laurie Agnew, and trombonist, Jonny Enright join the core players to create the explosive sound and fresh outlook of the new sextet.

Expect their interpretations of some the hits of the great salsa orchestras of Cuba, such as Los Van Van, Manolito y Su Trabujo, and Havana De Primera: solid Cuban music infused with blistering solos and infectious rhythms. Compelling dance music that will have you on the dance floor all night!

(Leek is a lovely little town on the south-western edge of the Peak District, an easy enough drive from Macclesfield, Manchester, Stoke, Ashbourne, Derby etc....!). Lovely wooden dance floor. Full bar.

Parking? Please note the venue does not have a car park but there is ample parking across the road so please put Leek High St. car park in your sat nav (should be free in the evening, and other car parks, on street spots nearby)
What time? Doors open 7pm, 7.15pm Absolute beginner salsa taster with Helen, 8pm Improvers+ Cuban Salsa workshop with Jose Olive Poyatos, 9pm Dancing to the band! Dancing finishes 11.30pm. 
Dress code? Christmas glitz!
